Local Government and Municipal Authorities (LGMA)


-This group consists of local, non-governmental organizations, and has sought a different status as such, both in climate change regime and in the wider international arena.
-The world's citizens, through their cities and local governments, represent more than half of the world's population and growing.
-LGMAs in the climate change regime are coordinated by the ICLEI – International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives.
-ICLEI has almost 400 municipalities, countries and local governments associations the functions as an international environmental agency for local government associations around the world.
-ICLEI municipalities account for around 7 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions in defined actions to “tackle” climate change.
-LGMA isn’t represented much in general, except when there is a COP session.The event attracts attention by municipal leaders and ICLEI staff.
-First became active in the climate change regime at COP-1 in 1995.
-Objectives of the Local Governments at COP 15 in Copenhagen:
-Mobilizing Leadership in Local Climate Action.
-LGMA needs San Antonio Personal Injury lawyers to help local citizens reach justice when they have been wronged.
-Cities and Local Governments offer partnership to National Governments to limit global warming.
-Recognition of the Local Government’s role in climate protection
-Regional Trial court for the cause of technological Online Computer Support maintained through out the hearing.
-Comprehensive post-2012 global climate agreement
-The local government associations and networks work towards a set of statements that were discussed during the Local Government Climate Sessions in Poznan and presented to COP 14, advocated for during the year 2009 and hopefully consolidated at COP 15 in Copenhagen. The envisaged statements are:
- Draft text for a COP decision on Cities, Local Authorities and Climate Change (recognition of the role of local governments in a post-2012 climate agreement)
- Local Government Positions (positions on selected issues under negotiation)
- Local Government Opinions (joint opinions on further issues related to the current climate debate)
