Environmental Non-Governmental Organization (ENGO)

-ENGO stands for Environmental Non-governmental Organization, such as WWF, Greenpeace, or the Environmental Investigation Agency.
-Non-governmental organizations are created by people with out any participation with or representation of any government.
-ENGO consists of many different organizations that all focus on conserving life on earth.

EXAMPLES

-WWF is the World Fund for Nature and works on issues such as conservation research and restoration of the environment.
-WWF is a world wide group.
-WWF lobbies, researches, and consults.Its mottos is “For a Living Planet”

-Greenpeace currently addresses many environmental issues with a primary focus on efforts to stop global warming and the preservation of the world's oceans and ancient forests. In addition to conventional environmental organization methods, such as lobbying businesses and politicians and participating in international conferences, Greenpeace uses direct action to attract attention to particular environmental problems.
-Greenpeace consists of 2.9 million members.
-Greenpeace’s current priorities:
-The Environmental Investigation Agency stated its goal to investigate and expose crimes against wildlife and the environment.Full-time EIA investigators work undercover gathering film, photos and information from around the world. The evidence they collect is presented to the media, government and policy makers in order to inform and persuade that action must be taken in order to protect the planet's most precious species, habitats and vital ecosystems.
-The Environmental Investigation Agency is currently working to:
  • Prevent the illegal trade of ozone depleting substances,
  • Reduce and phase out the use of certain climate change gases and various other harmful chemicals (HFCs/F-gases etc).
  • Stop the destruction of rainforests by illegally logging.
  • Shut down the market for illegally traded ivory.
  • Maintain the ban on commercial whale hunting.
  • Halt to the illegal trade in Asian big cats for skins, bones and items such as tiger bone wine.
